About

Lisa Hall believes that how you get through a divorce matters as much as where you end up. For the past several years, family law has been the heart of her practice at Hodges, Doughty & Carson, where she has spent her entire 28-year legal career. She helps clients in Knoxville and across East Tennessee navigate divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, and division of marital property with clarity, steadiness, and a focus on what actually matters to them and their family.

Her approach is straightforward: she gives clients a realistic picture of where things stand, helps them understand their options and the likely outcomes, and lets them make their own decisions with objective thought behind them. She does not manufacture conflict or prolong a process unnecessarily. Some cases settle at the kitchen table. Some go to trial. She is prepared for both, and she will tell you honestly which path makes sense for yours.

Lisa is also a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Family Law Mediator, helping families resolve disputes privately, faster, and without a courtroom battle. Her background as a family law attorney informs everything about how she mediates. She understands what agreements hold up, where the real sticking points tend to be, and how to help parties find their way to a resolution that works. She welcomes referrals from fellow attorneys throughout East Tennessee.

Clients consistently describe her as responsive, calm under pressure, and genuinely caring. As one client put it: she never promises the moon, but she sure tries her best to deliver it. Her paralegal is an essential part of the practice, and together they are known for making one of life's hardest experiences feel a little more manageable.

Lisa earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1997, where she received the Certificate of Academic Excellence Award and the Corpus Juris Secundum Award. She also holds a B.A. in English from the University of Tennessee — a foundation that shows up in how she communicates with clients, drafts documents, and argues a case.

She is deeply rooted in the Knoxville legal community. Lisa is a Fellow of the Knoxville Bar Foundation, a Master of the Bench with the Hamilton Burnett Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and a member of the Hearing Panel for the Board of Professional Responsibility. She is a past member of the Knoxville Bar Association Board of Governors and a regular contributor to DICTA, the Knoxville Bar Association's monthly publication. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and CityView Top Attorneys across multiple practice areas.

Outside the office, Lisa is an enthusiastic traveler with a particular love for Italy. She enjoys Broadway shows, walking, hiking, and gardening, and believes that a full life outside of work makes her a better attorney inside it.
